Transitions in Teaching Mechanical Engineering during COVID-19 crisis

The quality of teaching in mechanical engineering greatly depends on the practical application fundamental theory taught. During COVID-19, limited access to in-class lectures, courses with demonstrator plants, and active student participation forced us, an institute a faculty German higher education system, transform strategy time one month. For class sizes between ~25 ~700 participants, mainly addressing mechanical, electrical software students, we share challenges successes our transformation during April-October 2020. Furthermore, present collection suitable tools, their functions, advantages, disadvantages, feedback from three sources provide profound assessment adaptation criteria digital teaching. Using quantitative evaluations four lectures automation information systems over past five years, highlight experience students’ perspective evaluate methods compared well-established formats. This compilation causes consequences clarifies effort involved achieving result discusses potential or hybrid engineering.
